These are all magnificent, some of the finest sentimental soul that's ever been recorded. But it's also been issued before, and Amherst's mastering isn't anything to write home about, especially the way they tend to wash out Russell Tompkins, Jr.'s high notes.

The songs here aren't placed chronologically which is perhaps a criticism, but it does help make the album more listenable. As far as I'm concerned, their earlier material sounds much better than most of the later, which occasionally grate. By mixing up the chronology, the softer soulful earlier songs help to reduce the stridency of the later.
